Holy Hannah, a new blog!

Congratulations Internet, you now have another blog to fill your tubes with. This opportunity though- I must thank you for, Internets.

You see, it has always been a hope of mine to have an area dedicated to experimentation, exploration, and geekery. I have always been a designer first, developer second. I am now starting to change this. With the wide array of tools out there, even someone as myself can venture into the areas once dominated by developers. Okay, you can stop all of that screaming (laughing?) now you guys. This new website is completely dedicated as a space for me to grow as a designer and developer, and maybe share some useful and random knowledge, facts, sayings, ideas, and processes with those of you who will eventually fall upon this website.

I have long hated how blogs have become the cardboard boxes of the Internet. People are throwing things in them without much thought as to how, or sometimes even what. At least Geocities’ sites had character, even if they used neon-green text, which was set to blink on animated blue backgrounds.

So some people should stick with the cardboard mansions.

At this point, you may be asking yourself “Just who does this guy think he is?” I wouldn’t blame many of you. I am a young designer at the early stages of his career. I love design, and have dedicated my life to it, because of its reaching so many people in so many different and amazing ways. It has been long understood that the people in media are some of the most influential people in modern society. Just see any bit of war propaganda, or the smoke and mirror tricks of major corporations for evidence. While I am not trying to go on a power trip, I do hope to use my abilities as a designer and developer for some good. Recently, I applied for a position at a small but growing company in the online-groceries industry. This is a great opportunity for myself to help those that may be handicapped or otherwise not able to do their own physical grocery shopping with an easy to use, efficient website that they will never feel upset to use. These types of projects are what I hope to have many of in my career.

Now that you know why I’m in it, this is why I built this site: I am adding my hat to the movement currently sweeping through some of the most influential areas of the web (examples such as Jason Santa Maria, Smashing Magazine, Chris Coyier) that blogs are leaving the newspaper stage of their life-cycle, and jumping into the era of the Magazine.

More of what to expect here: ramblings about topics that interest me. These would be Design, Development, the Titanic, sports and fitness, new tech, typography, Stargate (Indeed), xkcd, maybe even a few entries on video games- just to get the fan boys all riled up.

    Thanks Dan!

A lot of people from school have gone the way of wix.com. I’ve seen some nice sites come out of it actually. You’re focusing on photography now, huh? I really like a lot of the work you’ve done under fashion. Keep it up!
